PART 1: DAY HIKES
Acclimatization & Preparation
Day Hikes – General Information
At Andes Heritage Expeditions (AHE) , our day hikes are designed with one primary goal: to help you acclimatize safely and effectively before undertaking multi-day treks at high altitudes (3,800 m to 5,100 m).
These shorter outings allow your body to gradually adapt to reduced oxygen levels, lower temperatures, and changing terrain – reducing the risk of altitude sickness and improving your overall trekking performance.
But acclimatization isn’t the only benefit. Our day hikes also offer:
A realistic preview of Andean terrain, weather, and trail conditions.
Physical and mental preparation without the commitment of a multi-day expedition.
Flexibility for travelers with limited time or varying fitness levels.
Opportunities to spot local wildlife (condors, llamas, vizcachas) and explore cultural sites like abandoned mines or ancient paths.
A confidence-building experience before tackling longer, more demanding circuits.
Whether you need to acclimatize or simply prefer a rewarding one-day adventure, our day hikes are the ideal starting point for your Bolivian Andes journey.
Why Acclimatize with AHE?
| Reason | Benefit |
|---|---|
| We design routes that climb progressively, never too fast, never too high on day one | |
| Our guides monitor your response to altitude and adjust pace accordingly | |
| No gyms or oxygen chambers – you adapt by walking where you will trek | |
| Acclimatization doesn’t mean boring. You will see condors, ruins, and villages | |
| Complete a day hike, rest, and start your multi-day circuit with confidence |
We recommend 2–3 day hikes before attempting any multi-day circuit over 4,000 m.
