This day hike takes you to Jacha Khasiri Lagoon and Chuxna Quta Lake, passing several smaller lagoons along the way, including Kallwani and Taypi Khota. The ascent to the mountain where Jacha Khasiri rests follows narrow, zigzagging trails that wind between gigantic boulders—paths shaped entirely by nature, not by human hands.
As you climb, the cool breeze gradually sharpens into an icy wind. Jacha Khasiri Lagoon lies nestled within a rocky crater, flanked by several mountains, only one of which still retains a faint wisp of snow. Nearby, Andean gulls circle overhead, emitting sharp, harsh cries as they protect their eggs.
From there, a steep slope leads to a mountain pass at 4,930 meters, offering a sweeping view of the Andean mountain range. The route then descends in zigzags across moraines until you reach Chuxna Quta Lake, where a vehicle awaits to return you to the city of La Paz.

By starting with a moderate day hike at intermediate elevations, participants can reduce the risk of altitude sickness, improve their physical comfort, and enhance overall safety and enjoyment during the more demanding treks that follow. This gradual approach is especially important in Bolivia, where some trails exceed 4,000 meters (13,100 feet).
