About the trekking

Embark on a breathtaking three-day trek that takes you through the stunning massifs of the Eastern Andes, northeast of La Paz. Starting at around 4,700 meters beside the serene Uri-Kota Lake, you’ll be surrounded by rugged peaks and dramatic landscapes. Ascend to the breathtaking Slovenia Lake, where herds of llamas graze throughout the ascent.

Once you reach the Ventanani glacier, a lake with turquoise color waters and expansive ice fields reveal in front of you. The journey peaks at a high pass near 5,200 meters, offering panoramic views of snowy summits and hidden lakes. As you descend, the scenery transforms from stark alpine terrain to warmer vibrant valleys filled with waterfalls and tranquil lakes. Concluding in the charming valley village aof Botijlaka at 3,600 meters, this trek promises an unforgettable experience of isolation and connection with the awe-inspiring beauty of the Bolivian Andes.

Itinerary (example)

Day 1: Departure and start of the hike.

  • Departure from hotel in La Paz at 7:00 AM
  • Arrival at Lake Uri Kota
  • Ascent to Laguna Eslovenia (2 hours) and then to Ventanani Glacier (light lunch – rest)
  • Ascent to mountain pass to descend to Laguna Chiar Kota.
  • Arrival at Laguna Chiar-Kota (overnight stay at a rural lodge).

Day 2: Resuming the hike.

  • Departure at 8 am.
  • Ascent via mountain passes toward 4900 meters.
  • Gradual descent through valleys until reaching Botijlaka Valley – 5 pm.

Day 3: Final leg of the hike and return to La Paz.

  • Hiking resumes at 9:00 AM.
  • Descent (2-3 hours) to the Botijlaca hydroelectric plant.
  • Return to La Paz, lunch en route.
  • Photos at viewpoints and visits to cultural sites along the way.
